Waiting is Wasting

How much of our lives do you think we spend waiting? Waiting in traffic? Waiting to go to something? Waiting to see something? Waiting on a video buffering?

The truth is, I don’t know, you’ll have to Google it. (Other search engines are available.) But it is a thought that I’ve been… thinking of for a while now.

I see life as far too short. We only have a limited amount of time on earth and to me, it seems like every single one of us wastes our time on earth. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing and people may be forced to live life in a certain way. What I’m trying to say is that the earth is a secret room, a giant one at that, a room which we have the key to, each and every one of us. But the problem is, we throw that key away.

Most people live a life similar to everyone around them. They are born, if fortunate enough they are educated, once again if fortunate enough, they get a job and they work for a large portion of their life just to live. It’s been that way for years and years and years and it probably won’t change, ever because it is the way mankind has adapted to the earth.

Not a lot of us want to have to work but we need to, to get money, to pay for the things we need, to help and give to others and basically, to live.

Even although work and other things in life are time consuming, there is always time to do other things. The time to do other things is the time we spend waiting. What is the point in waiting? No one really benefits from waiting, not in a huge way anyway.

Chances are, you’ve heard the saying, “Great things come to those who wait” which could be used to go against the point I’m trying to make. But what is the point of waiting when we could be appreciating the planet we live on? Wouldn’t it be great if we could do all the necessary things we need to do with no waiting at all in the one go? We’d be finished working before we know it and we would have so much time to do more enjoyable things and take advantage of our limited time on earth.

Of course, this is never going to happen, it’s just one of those things. But we could do something to take advantage of our time I suppose.

At any point in your life, if you find yourself waiting for no good reason, don’t. Stop waiting, immediately, and do something rather than do nothing.

Standing, waiting on a train? Yes, you need to wait but don’t wait doing nothing. Even if it is something simple like reading a book whilst you are waiting, you are at least waiting doing something. You are using your time on earth wisely by appreciating a masterpiece which someone has spent their time wisely on so that you can enjoy it.

No matter what the situation, if you are waiting and doing nothing with a point, stop and think. There will always be something better you can do than just wait, not doing a thing.

This will be one of my top new year resolutions for 2013. Never wait, never do nothing. Always, always do something, even if it is the littlest thing, do something. Because, waiting is wasting.
