Most of us now a days, have our own online presence and profiles. Some of us use the internet for simple things, like research, entertainment and socializing, and some of us still do that, but take it more seriously and do more to represent ourselves online. We create usernames and screen-names that we like, or give something away about us, like our names, or countries, or birth year. You get the classics like, “JohnSmith1988” and “FootballFCSteven03” which are names, that aren’t really used for important purposes, but more for little things like Twitter, or YouTube. But then you get people who have usernames for a reason, who use it as a way to promote and represent themselves online. The best example I can think of here, is my new username and screen-name, “Spendicable” Although it suggests absolutely nothing about me, it is what people are getting to know me by, online. It’s something that -hopefully- is easy to remember, and it’s totally unique, and mines. And I use that almost everywhere online, as its perfect safety wise, and representation wise. But how does the perfect name come around?
For me, spendicable was just a word that I had made up one day, to compliment on something, and when wanting a new username, that came into my head, and to my luck, it was available, everywhere that I wanted. So for me, it was easy, but I do know how hard it is to think up an ingenious name, when you actually need it.
Sometimes, you really need to go extra miles, and think outside the box. If none of your ideas work, then you need to start thinking outside the box. Find an Anagram server/generator, and see what ingenious names you can get out of plugging a few words in! You’ll be surprised with what you get!
If that doesn’t work, there are some other good generators online, that let you plug-in some information about yourself, for example, nationality & favourite colour, or first name & favourite animal – again, you’ll be surprised at what you get, and you may find one you like!
If all that fails, just do what I did, make up a word from the first sounds, images and letters that come into your head. Your brain is the best generator you’ll find.
But I think I see a problem emerging. When creating a username, different websites and services restrict you to certain features like, “A-Z & 0-9 Only” or “Letters & Numbers & _- ” This is because if domain trouble, a domain is the address of a certain thing online, because any domain can only accept letters and numbers and few other characters. So you couldn’t have a username like, “Scott&Thorne” because usually, the value “&” is used to compute and direct. But the problem that is emerging, is sites like YouTube. Hundreds of accounts are created and closed everyday. But on sites such as YouTube, once an account has been closed, the username can never be used again, and there are some darn good ones that have been lost. So in the not to distant future, will there be any decent usernames available? Sites may have to re-release usernames that have been lost, in order to keep good service and traffic.
However, I don’t need to worry about a thing now- I have my new username that is mines, and I have no intention of loosing it anytime soon, and I hope to put it into action, very, very soon!
